A 4-day Maharashtra circuit — from the divine blessings of Sai Baba at Shirdi to the Jyotirlinga of Nashik's Trimbakeshwar, and the UNESCO-listed Ellora Caves and Bibi Ka Maqbara at Aurangabad.
Shirdi, in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, is one of India's most visited pilgrimage destinations — home to the Samadhi Mandir of Shirdi Sai Baba, the sacred Dwarkamai mosque where he lived, and Gurusthan — the neem tree under which he first appeared to villagers. The evening Aarti is a profoundly moving experience.
The circuit continues to Nashik — home to the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga (one of 12 in India) and the sacred Godavari river ghats — and climaxes at Aurangabad with the extraordinary Ellora Caves (Kailasa Temple) and the Bibi Ka Maqbara, the 'Mini Taj Mahal' of the Deccan.
Shirdi Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir — The central pilgrimage complex housing the marble samadhi of Sai Baba — along with Dwarkamai (the mosque where he lived), Gurusthan (the sacred neem tree) and Chavadi, where he rested on alternate nights.
Trimbakeshwar Temple, Nashik — One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India — a stunning ancient Shiva temple at the source of the Godavari river, near Nashik, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Brahmagiri hills.
Ellora Caves & Kailasa Temple — A UNESCO World Heritage Site — 34 rock-cut monasteries and temples carved between the 6th and 11th centuries. The Kailasa Temple (Cave 16) is one of the largest single rock-cut monuments in the world, and the Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga is nearby.
Bibi Ka Maqbara, Aurangabad — Built in 1660 by Mughal prince Azam Shah in memory of his mother — a stunning white-marble mausoleum that closely resembles the Taj Mahal, earning it the nickname 'Mini Taj of the Deccan'.
Arrive at Shirdi Airport — transfer to hotel and check in. In the evening, visit the sacred Sai Baba Samadhi Mandir complex — pay your respects at the samadhi, Dwarkamai mosque, Gurusthan and Chavadi. Attend the evening Aarti at 7:00 PM, one of India's most moving devotional ceremonies. Overnight stay in Shirdi.
