Jodhpur, the Blue City, is famous for its towering Mehrangarh Fort, iconic blue-washed old town streets, and grand palaces reflecting Rajasthan's royal heritage.
Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha of the Rathore dynasty. The old city is highly recognizable for its indigo-painted houses, a tradition originally started by Brahmins to ward off heat and mosquitoes, which has now become a signature style of the city.
The skyline is dominated by the colossal Mehrangarh Fort, rising 125 meters on a cliff face. Jodhpur offers travelers a rich slice of history with attractions like the white marble Jaswant Thada, the Clock Tower market, and the massive Umaid Bhawan Palace.
Mehrangarh Fort — One of India's largest forts at 400 ft above Jodhpur's skyline — built in red sandstone with seven gates. Inside: Moti Mahal (gold leaf ceiling), Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Silah Khana (armoury), Daulat Khana and Rang Mahal.
Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum — A 75-year-old architectural marvel — one of the world's largest private residences, now partly a museum showcasing artistic murals, miniature paintings, vintage clocks and royal household collections.
Jaswant Thada & Bishnoi Village — Jaswant Thada — the white marble 'Taj Mahal of Marwar'. Bishnoi Village safari — a glimpse into the rich cultural life of Marwar.
