Bandhavgarh National Park features rocky hills and dense sal forests, globally famous for having one of the highest densities of Bengal tigers in India.
Situated in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh has a rich history tied to local mythology. The park gets its name from the Bandhavgarh Fort, situated on a central hill, which legend says Lord Rama gifted to his brother Lakshmana.
The reserve boasts a high tiger density, making it a favorite for wildlife photographers. It features rocky hills, grassy swamps, and unique historical structures like the 10th-century Shesh Shaiya, a 35-foot statue of Lord Vishnu reclining on a serpent.
Tala Zone Safari — The premier zone of the park, famous for rocky terrain, meadows, and a very high probability of tiger encounters.
Shesh Shaiya — A stunning 10th-century sandstone statue of reclining Lord Vishnu, nestled inside a quiet forest clearing with a natural pool.
Badi Gufa — A series of 2,000-year-old rock-cut caves carved into the sandstone cliffs of Bandhavgarh hill, once used as shelters by soldiers.
Baghel Museum — The private collection of the Maharajas of Rewa, showing royal weapons, hunting trophies, and artifacts related to the first white tiger.
